Mapping a Sense of Place

Urban Reconnaissance: Mapping a Sense of Place is based on a mapping project undertaken as a Master of Design thesis. The process of mapping as a design strategy was used to explore representations of space and spatial practices. The Junction neighbourhood in Toronto was chosen as the site of study. Kevin Lynch’s taxonomy of urban form together with Henri Lefebvre’s spatial triad provided the theoretical framework through which I interpreted this urban space. Five maps and three bookworks were created as the visual artifacts for this project.
